My movie review for The Bush Court Bunny

Yeah my friend is editing/creating a new freelance magazine at Murdoch. It is cool we have sponsors and support from high places at uni and everything. :D

300

One of 2007’s biggest movies, 300 had reached fame as an internet meme long before it was actually released (countless photo shopped images involving the phrase “This is Sparta!” have been circulating for quite some time). 300 is an ancient history war epic which closely resembles Troy and Gladiator. As expected for this genre there is only a vague idea of a plot. Something like, Small town, blue collar king tells head honcho, white collar god-king to fuck off; god-king gets angry and sends his army of a few million soldiers to express this anger. Blue collar king can’t mobilise his entire army because it is “against the law” so he takes 300 of his warriors to hold off the advance. The focus is, as expected, an orgy of continual violence and if you were looking for anything else then you’re silly.

What makes 300 unique from other, similar movies? It is not the average acting, or sheer volume of unrealistically attractive, shirtless men (all Spartans waxed themselves daily), or even the elephants that tumble hilariously off a cliff, it is the freaks. There are all sorts of wonderful creatures, from a giant ogre with crab claws for arms to an oversized Rhinoceros-Dinosaur that was somehow trained for war. Hell, there’s even a bunch of dirty, old, inbred men who obviously didn’t realise that playing with drugs and open fires at the same time is bad for your skin. The freaks are a testament to the movie’s comic book origins and remind you that 300 is in no way supposed to be taken seriously as anything anywhere near an actual account of what happened (there were explosions ingeniously worked into an Ancient Greece setting for God’s sake).

In summary, if you want to watch a movie with substance, don’t go to see a Hollywood blockbuster. For what it is, 300 is a great action movie with enough boobs in the rare dialogue heavy, plot developing scenes to get you through to the next round of people getting cut up by flawless male models.

Overarching Message: Two Bunnies (Definitely nobody cares)
