Stage Manager Weeks 1 and 2

So part of our assignment is keeping a 'journal' of our experiences. I promised Rob last week that I'd post mine on here which is good because otherwise I would probably never do it.

I think it's likely that these will turn out to just be notes and once I figure out how I want my journal to work I'll start doing it properly there.

Right so week one wasn't stage managery at all. (Week 2 wasn't really either though...)

Basically it was pretty inspiring to be around all the Theatre kids again. Almost half of the Shakespeare class is in this unit which is amazing, but there's also about 40 other people. I'm going to have to organise them all. Don't ask me why I do these things to myself! I swear I'm going to grow up to be one of those crazy masochists who cruises S&M bars for people willing to hurt me.

Jenny assured me that I wouldn't be alone in this task. Woot! I hope I get along great with this other girl.

Anyway back in class I realised that I never want to act again. Seriously. Those workshops kill me, I'm way too unco to do the things that everyone seems to get right off the bat. I couldn't walk up or down stairs for a few days after I was a Sociopathic Jack In The Box for half the workshop (think squat jumps). Once again. Masochist. I should have chosen a toy soldier. =P

WEEK TWO.

Andrew's lecture was awesome. Despite the references to his alleged children that were obviously lies. It put a new perspective on everything and, even though I really hate kids, I'm sure a little part of my black heart will skip if I can help them with such an amazing learning experience. Once again I'm glad I'm not acting, all the teachers and kid-liking freaks can deal with the children. I'll deal with the former. =P

We didn't have to do much for Shakespeare at all in terms of set building and stuff so it was a great experience to start chalking. I'm looking forward to whatever it is I get to do next week. I'm learning so much about theatres every time I go in there and I love it. The chalking was hilarious and after Aleesha and I discussed our past memories of certain places we wanted to kill ourselves but that's another story. Totally met Emma, the other SM (Stage Manager or Sado-Masocist?) too, just as we were leaving. Hopefully we'll get to know each other next week =D.

As part of the unit I've started doing a Theatre Tech workshop with Tim. There's a bunch of people from a couple of the acting/production classes and I'm soaking up every little detail because, frankly, I'm going to need to know what's what if I'm going to be in charge of it. All in all it's the most fun I've had at uni since, well, last semester. It's great to be back and I'm looking forward to the challenges. Also looking forward to being able to yell at people =D

that little part of your black heart is just the leftover instinct that anything alive has to ensure the survival of the species. it is best to just ignore it.

and you probably won't have to look to far to find people that will voluntarilly hurt you. just because it is an S&M bar doesn't mean they aren't going to charge any less for a pint.

LoL.

I just hope for your sake someone doesn't have the bright idea of bringing the kids into the play.

That would be pretty damn bad...
